All of us know plenty of highly intelligent people. Some of them are very talented.

Some surprise us with their knowledge of grammar, scientific reasoning, business savviness, and clever opinions with current events.

Many of them offer amazing, sound advice.

And yet, most of them still struggle to make a dent in the World.

Why is that?

Why does intelligence fail to get their businesses in the upper percentiles?

Why are they still stuck?

Part of the answer lies in our definition of intelligence.

Recently, I came across the audio clip above where a young Steve Jobs explains a key characteristic of what he considers to be a "smart person."

Steve says:

"A lot of [what it means to be smart] is the ability to zoom out, like you’re in a city and you could look at the whole thing from the 80th floor down at the city. And while other people are trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B reading these stupid little maps, you could just see it in front of you. You can see the whole thing."

Jobs masterfully notes that real smart people often make connections that seem obvious to them, but perplexing to others,

— simply because they have developed the skill of "zooming out" to get a better view of the bigger picture.

Because without the ability to zoom out and see the big picture, intelligence becomes another form of "noise."

Being able to see yourself and your business, and all the people in it from the 80th Floor,

Seeing clearly,

  • Where it is?
  • Where does it need to be?

→ What actions do I need to take to get to where I want to go?

And then figuring out the one most important thing to be done this month, this week and today,

And doing only that, getting narrowly focused on it and nothing else.

And in case you need help zooming out, because you are too much in the nitty gritty of your business, then
